Our story

It all started with a common love of food and community.

“We need this in Eau Claire!” said Amanda, while on a food tour in Nice, France with her sister, Michelle. That was in 2015. Fast forward to 2017, Amanda introduced her friend, Nick, to Michelle and the three of them started talking about their common love of food. Nick, having been raised in and around the hospitality industry his whole life, had just opened a restaurant and was ready for his next food venture. It was an instant connection and passion for the possibility of what could be. After attending the Hudson Food Walk, the foodies knew this was the time for the Chippewa Valley to experience their very own food tour! Three Foodies LLC was created.

Here we are today, three community focused foodies doing business as Chippewa Valley Tours. Our first tour is The Downtown Eau Claire Food & History Tour. This is only the beginning as The Foodies are already working on ideas for future tours (i.e. other locations, haunted tour, food excursions, private chefs and progressive dinners). Stay tuned to see how Chippewa Valley Tours develops into the front-runner in the area for unique experiences.

Meet Amanda!

Hey! We are all self-proclaimed foodies, but I am also a bit of a history buff. I like to know the “whys” behind things and I appreciate the past. By day, I am an Executive Assistant at a local registered investment advisory firm. I have lived in Eau Claire for eight years and enjoy this “big, small town” where the people are caring and compassionate. I love giving back to the community as often as I can. Eau Claire is an awesome spot to raise my son, Logan. I’m excited to share this place I get to call home with others!

Meet Nick!

Hello, Nick here. I’m an Eau Claire native that has been involved in the hospitality industry most of my life. One of my passions is this community, so finding a way to show it off is a win-win. Food is another passion and the food scene in the Chippewa Valley has blossomed in the last few years. I’m excited to share some great tasting food from our local chefs! My day job is a Business Banker where I work with businesses to help them grow. In my free time I volunteer, officiate basketball, play golf and spend time with family. I live in Eau Claire with my wife Jessica and daughter Evelyn.

Meet Michelle!

Hi! I’m Michelle Lien. By day, I am General Manager of a manufacturing company in Eau Claire that is headquartered in Manchester, England. This job has given me the opportunity to enjoy one of my passions in life, travel. I have traveled to many countries as well as many cities here in the States. One thing all of my trips have in common? Food! I love getting to explore each new city and country by hearing it from a local’s perspective. By enjoying a food tour, I get to learn about the culture and people. I’ve always been preoccupied with food. My husband will attest to that as he says I’m thinking about the next meal before we finish the current one! I live in Eau Claire with my husband, Josh, and son, Camden.

  • Are children allowed on the tour?

Children are certainly welcome on our tour; however we do ask that you keep in mind that the tour is 3 hours long, involves periods of walking and standing, and does stop at busy restaurants. Parents know their children best and should assess the situation on an individual basis. Anyone who is older than 5 is required to purchase a ticket, even if they are not eating.

If you will have an infant/toddler on the tour with you (under the age of 5) you do not need to purchase a ticket for them. Please just let us know when you purchase your ticket that you will be bringing them along with you.

  • Are there any beverages served on the Downtown Eau Claire Food & History Tour?

Water is served at each of the locations and at a few locations a sample-sized alcoholic beverage will be served to guests aged 21 and over. Guests may also purchase additional beverages at locations along the route.
  • Are there bathrooms available during the tour?

Yes, bathrooms are available at multiple stops throughout the tour.
  • Do I have to purchase tickets in advance?

Yes, tickets need to be purchased by 10 AM the day of the tour. Tickets are only available for purchase with a Credit or Debit card through our website. Cash is not accepted. Tickets often sell out, so tickets should be purchased in advance to guarantee your spot.
  • Do you allow for private groups or parties?

Yes! We love accommodating corporate or private events. The Downtown Eau Claire Food & History Tour is a great way for a business group, club, family, birthday or bachelor/bachelorette party to experience downtown Eau Claire. Please contact us and we can reserve a date for your group.
  • How can I join the team and be a guide?

If interested in becoming a guide with Chippewa Valley Tours, please contact us at info@chippewavalleytours.com.
  • How long is the Downtown Eau Claire Food & History Tour?

The total distance walked is approximately 1.2 miles along mostly flat terrain, although there are some small inclines and declines on the sidewalks on the route. Guests are encouraged to come early and stay late and enjoy the many boutique shops, restaurants, and bars in Eau Claire. The tour is 3 hours, from 1:30 PM to 4:30 PM.
  • How much food will I get?

There will be multiple tastings on the tour, which most participants feel is enough for a meal. We do encourage that you have a light meal a few hours before taking the tour, because the tour is not intended to replace multiple meals. The tastings are designed to be the equivalent of a meal over the three hours.
  • How should I dress?

In Eau Claire, Wisconsin we are laid back, we are casual, and love to have a good time. We don’t let the weather stop us! For your enjoyment and comfort, we encourage you to look ahead at the forecast and dress for the weather conditions. Tours will take place rain, snow or shine. Please dress comfortably.
  • How will the charge appear on my credit card statement?

The charge will appear on your statement as “VOLUMEONE”.
  • If I live in the Chippewa Valley, why should I take this tour more than once?

Our stops on the tour are locally owned and operated establishments and source local foods that change with the seasons and availability. When you join the tour in the spring, it will look different than in the fall. One thing will never change…our commitment to provide you not only tastings and history, but a memorable experience.
  • If I live in the Chippewa Valley, why should I take this tour?

This tour will offer you a look into the rich history of Eau Claire, much of which many locals are not aware of. You will also have the opportunity to taste the food and beverage pairings at the multiple establishments to get a good overview of what they have to offer…all in one afternoon! Imagine having the opportunity to try items on a menu that you wouldn’t normally try. You may find a new favorite! Also, it’s a great opportunity to bring visiting family and friends to learn about how wonderful your city is!
  • Is the tour only about food?

No way! You will learn the rich history of Eau Claire and how this thriving town has become a destination for travelers from around the country. Our tour guides will also provide you with the backgrounds of our independent restaurants and their unique stories of why they began their business in Eau Claire. The tour is just another way to learn and explore why this small town was voted “The Best Small Town to Visit” in Wisconsin.
  • Is the tour wheelchair accessible?

We understand that some of our guests may have differing mobility needs. We will do our best to accommodate all of our guests to ensure you enjoy the Downtown Eau Claire Food & History Tour. You are able to specify accommodations when you book your tickets. Please be as specific as possible so we can try to accommodate your needs. Please contact us in advance of the tour if you have any questions or concerns.
  • Is there time for shopping?

There are many unique shops along the Downtown Eau Claire Food & History Tour. Your tour guide will take time to mention these shops along the way, but there is limited time during the tour. However, we encourage you to come back and visit the shops after your tour or on another visit to Eau Claire.
  • Should I tip the tour guide?

While tipping is not necessary or expected, tipping is customary if you had a great time and want to recognize the tour guide for a job well done.
  • What if I have dietary restrictions or food allergies?

You are able to specify dietary restrictions and food allergies when you book your tickets. Please be as specific as possible so we can try to accommodate your needs. Please note that we take food allergies very seriously. If you specify a food allergy in the booking process, the tastings may not be the same as what is offered to everyone else.
  • What if it rains?

The tour will go on – rain or shine. Please dress comfortably and for the weather. Umbrellas will be available.
  • What is the cancellation policy? Can I get a refund or reschedule?

Due to the attention and organization that goes into each tour, please take note of our refund and cancellation policies:

    • Tickets are non-refundable, but date changes are available on a case-by-case basis. Please contact Chippewa Valley Tours at info@chippewavalleytours.com to request a date change.
    • If you are unable to reschedule to another date, any tour canceled within 24 hours of the tour date will not be refunded.
    • All cancellations must be communicated by email to info@chippewavalleytours.com. No partial credits or rescheduling is allowed for partial attendance, no shows, or late arrivals. Be sure to show up at the right location, on time. Tours run regardless of weather conditions (unless the weather is deemed “unsafe”).
  • What is the tour group size? Can a tour be cancelled if a minimum tour size is not met?

Our tours are intended to provide our guests with a small group experience. The maximum number of guests is 12. If only one or two guests have booked, Chippewa Valley Tours may reach out to see if you wish to change your booking to another date. We want our guests to have a full experience that includes good food, meeting new people and tons of fun!
  • When did Chippewa Valley Tours start and who owns the company?

Chippewa Valley Tours was established in 2018.  The company is owned by Michelle Lien, Amanda Olson and Nick White (aka Three Foodies LLC).  With a passion for authentic, local food as well as the community, we began Chippewa Valley Tours.  Our first tour is the Downtown Eau Claire Food & History Tour.  See “About Us” for more details.
